I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is just a few days away!

I have been in training for weeks now trying to expand the tummy so that I can fill up on my share of the turkey dinner and pumpkin pie. For several years growing up the dinner on Thanksgiving was more sport or competition with family members. I remember traveling to Grandma’s and waiting for the cream onions, sweet potatoes, and fresh cranberry relish. The competition of out lasting the family at the dinner table was on. My sister and I very often would be the last one’s at the table trying to out-do the other. I remember those meals with great fondness.

The Celts, Smithwicks, and Seeing God in All Places

I’ve found myself thinking about Celtic Christian spirituality recently. My interest was sparked years ago by Thomas Cahill’s book, How the Irish Saved Civilization. I love Celtic music (OK, so maybe a little bagpipe goes a long way), prayers written by Celtic Christians, and a cold Smithwicks. A family trip to Ireland several years ago increased my awareness of this way of thinking about God and his relationship with his people.
